Ronaldo and Messi will face each other in 2020/21 UCL group stage

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are set to meet again in the UEFA Champions League after Juventus and Barcelona were drawn together in group G.

Its the first time in the champions league history that the two beasts are facing each other in group stage. Since the debut of both Ronaldo and Messi they haven’t faced in the group stage of the champions league. This time, call it coincidence or something else, fans got chance to witness these legends on the same pitch. Its the first and probably the last chance of witness Ronaldo and Messi in the same game.

Juventus and Barcelona are in the Group G of the champions league. Group G includes Juventus, Barcelona, Dynamo Kyiv and Ferenc Varos. The match between Ronaldo and Messi will make everyone’s jaw hard.

Ronaldo and Messi’s past encounters

The two legends of football, Messi and Ronaldo have faced each others 35 times with their clubs and national teams over the years. In these 35 encounters, the Portugese has won just 10 while the Argentinian has managed to win 16. 9 games are ended in draw. In these meet, Ronaldo  and Messi have scored 19 and 22 goals respectively. However, Ronaldo and Messi have not met in European competition since Barcelona eliminated Real Madrid in the 2010/11 UCL.

If we keep an eye on UCL performance and win Messi has won 2 drawn 2 and lost 1 against Ronaldo. Messi has scored 3 against team featuring Cristiano while Ronaldo is yet to score against team featuring Messi.

1st meet of Ronaldo and Messi (2007/08 semi-final )

Ronaldo and Messi have met first time when Barcelona faced Manchester United in 2007/8 champions league semi-final. Ronaldo missed a penalty for United after just three minutes of their first encounter (a 0-0 draw at Camp Nou. But Paul Scholes, scored the only goal in the second leg and pushed Manchester United into the final. Later, they met Chelsea in the final.

2nd  meet of Ronaldo and Messi (2008/09 UCL final)

They met against each other just after one year of Barcelona’s defeat against Manchester United. In 2008/09 champions league final, Ronaldo faced Messi. Ronaldo’s Manchester beared a 2-0 defeat against Messi’s Barcelona. Messi scored the first goal against Ronaldo in that final.

After the match Ronaldo said “We, the players, were not well, the tactics were not good,” said Ronaldo after full time in Rome. “Everything went wrong.” After the defeat Ronaldo made a move to Spanish club Real Madrid and pushed the rivalry to the next level.

Final meet of Ronaldo and Messi in UEFA champions league (2010/11 semi final)

Ronaldo and Messi once again came against each other when their side faced in the 2010/11 champions league semi-final. In the first leg in Real Madrid’s home ground Messi scored the magical brace. The second leg ended with 1-1 draw, finishing the knockout with 3-1 aggregate. Since, this game the two legends of the football has never met again.

Ronaldo and Messi in 2020/21 Group Stage

This is the first time after 10 years, the two portraits are set to fight against each other. The best footballer in the world are once again against each other. We got a chance to witness this rivalry once more after Ronaldo left Spain for Juventus.
